What should I do if my garbage disposal is humming but not working?
A humming disposal usually means the motor has power but the impeller is jammed. Try a safe reset and de-jam before calling.
- Turn off the switch and cut power at the breaker.
- Press the red reset button on the bottom.
- Insert a 1/4-in Allen key into the bottom socket; turn both ways to free the flywheel.
- Remove visible debris with tongs; never reach in.
- Restore power and test. If it still hums or trips, the motor may be seized. Call for service 24/7.
